How would you describe a complex subject without the use of speech? This abstract study is from a series of artworks experimenting with formalist painting or traditional joinery techniques as alternative languages. Inspired by scientific descriptions of planetary formation, this piece combines both vocabularies to propose a visual interpretation of the Lithosphere, Earth’s outermost layer of “crust” which is continuously folding. Geologic landscape is an island adrift on a subterranean ocean of molten magma.
