From a series completed in 1993, inspired by the rich history of European Plein-air painting as comprehensively described in his book, Before Photography, by author Peter Galassi. In particular the period that roughly spanned from the late eighteenth through to the first half of the nineteenth century. A time when many European painters such as Thomas Jones, Louise-Josephine Sarazin de Belmont and Jean Baptiste-Camille Corot travelled to Italy to study. Following a well established route of pilgrimage to paint photo-photographic studies of Rome and the surrounding countryside. The subject here is Coogee NSW, a far cry in distance and time from picturesque Rome but the cool morning light is equally glorious. See related works Konomie Dulce et Decorum and Duomo.
