This painting, from my science series, uses a complementary color palette and the vocabulary of Post-painterly abstraction to imagine a Supernova. Which, according to some scientists, is one of the most extreme events of astrophysics in our evolving universe. Alternatively the subject could also be a cool amoeba living inside a petrie dish lab experiment. Here, they are sort of similar in shape. After all aren’t they made of the same fundamental particles? And aren’t both only observable with sophisticated technology?
Supernova is one of the finalists for the 2026 Mosman Art Prize and will be on exhibition from 21 August – Monday 26 October at the Mosman Art Gallery, Sydney.
