String theorists propose that fundamental subatomic particles, which make up everything in the universe, are really vibrating one dimensional “strings”. Whenever I feel the need to visualise such complex scientific concepts I tend to reach for abstraction. Of all the strategies available to a painter and science fan, it strikes me as the least impractical.
For most of my science works many layers of overpainting are completed on studies first. Fine tuning patterns and colour palettes before settling on the final arrangement. Then committing to a final, full size painting of the subject.
